Just for Veterans – Explore Careers and Training OpportunitiesPosted on May 24th, 2012 No comments
As we welcome home Minnesota’s newest veterans this Memorial Day, it’s important to remember that many veterans are still transitioning to civilian life, including asking the question “what do I want to do for a living?”
There are many wonderful career exploration tools to help job seekers. Veterans will find these sites useful to understand civilian occupations. Because of the unique experience and skills gained in the military, veterans should explore these career websites, too:
- My Next Move for Veterans helps veterans explore careers, browse industries, and translate their military job to a civilian one. Start searching by entering a career key word, browse industries, or find civilian occupations that were similar to a military job. My Next Move is a product of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration and O*NET.
- CareerOneStop – Veterans ReEmployment is a one-stop site for employment, training and financial help for veterans. The site also includes a military-to-civilian job search, which will match a military career to local job opportunities. CareerOneStop is also a product of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration.
The career exploration and selection process may include getting a degree, certificate, or additional training. Educational assistance programs, including the GI Bill and other state resources, may be available to help pay for training.
A new national training assistance program for unemployed veterans will launch this summer. Known as the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP), it will provide training for programs of education that lead to a high demand occupation, as determined by the Department of Labor. Check the website (pdf) for program requirements and application information.
And if you are a veteran living in Minnesota, learn more about the job search assistance available to you.VN:F [1.9.7_1111]Just for Veterans - Explore Careers and Training Opportunities,
